CD Backup uses Backburner (has a modified version included) to record on CDs. It makes a list of files and locations, and individually tars and gzips each file. This is useful because it allows you to specify a filename, and just extract that file. If you were to use just tar and Backburner, it would take a very long time to reach the one file at the end of the stream. This program is written in perl.
